How to Keep Your New Car Looking and Smelling New

If you have recently purchased a new car, you probably want to keep it looking new and feeling for as long as you can. After all, there is no better feeling than climbing into a pristine and unspoilt motor vehicle. Below is a guide to some of the things you can do to keep your new car feeling new.

Wash your car on a regular basis

When you pick your new car up from the dealership, it is in perfect condition. In order to keep it that way, you will need to wash the bodywork on a regular basis. As you drive around, dust and debris from the road can cling to the bodywork of your car. Oil and grease can also be deposited on the vehicle's surface. These substances can damage the paintwork and lead to corrosion. To combat this, you should wash your car on a regular basis. You do not need any fancy equipment to do this. All you need are a couple of buckets of warm water, a soft cloth and some car cleaning fluid. You should be able to buy the cleaning fluid at your local auto centre. Mix the fluid with one bucket of water, following the instructions and use this solution to clean the car. Then rinse down the bodywork using water from the second bucket. If you have a hosepipe, you can use this to rinse the car.

Clay your car

Car clay is a putty which helps to lift any grime which has embedded itself into the surface of your new car. You can buy car clay from your local automotive shop. Some types of car clay can be used with just water. However, others need special lubricants such as car shampoo. You should carefully check the instructions on the box before you purchase the car clay. If you are unsure, a member of staff will be able to assist you.

Keep the interior clean

One of biggest signs that a car is new is the smell of its interior. If you want to preserve that new car smell, you will have to keep the interior of your car clean. Often, it is the smell of old cups of takeout coffee, half-eaten sandwiches which make a car smell terrible. To prevent this from happening, you should remove any trash from your car every time you arrive at a destination. Wiping down the interior surfaces can also help to remove grease and oil which can also make your car smell bad.

Throughout my life, I have been lucky enough to receive lots of fantastic advice about how best to buy, sell, repair and maintain different cars. When I first bought a car, I didn't really understand what I was doing. Thankfully, all of that changed when I made friends with the mechanic at my local auto shop. Over the years, he has spent a lot of time explaining and demonstrating auto related things to me.
